Vijay Sethupathi is an Indian actor and producer who has predominantly worked in Tamil movies, though he has also acted in Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi productions. He has appeared in more than 50 movies, many of which have been financially successful, giving him the moniker “Makkal Selvan,” which translates to “People’s Treasure.”

He has received numerous awards, with the National Film Award being the most prominent (2022). Sethupathi started considering acting after working as an Indian accountant in Dubai who was not a resident. Before gaining his major break in Seenu Ramasamy’s Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, he spent the first five years of his film career in tiny parts (2010). He played the antagonist in the films Pizza (2012) and Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012), which marked his breakthrough (2012).

He returned to India after quitting his work in 2003 because he was dissatisfied there. He experimented with interior design with pals for a while before deciding to submit an application after seeing an advertisement for a business that sold prefabricated kitchens. Due to his “very stunning appearance,” he recalled how filmmaker Balu Mahendra pushed him to pursue acting.
