Amala Paul Education

Amala studied in Nirmala Upper Secondary School, Aluva, and Aluva Government Higher Secondary School during her year off following high school graduation. She then applied to St. Teresa’s College to pursue a degree in communicative English.

Amala Paul Early Life

In the city of Ernakulam, Kerala, on October 26, 1991, Amala Paul was born to Christian parents. Her father goes by the name of Paul Varghese. Even the matriarch, singer Annice Paul, performs in her family. Abhijit Paul, her brother, is also a performer. Amala completed her secondary education at Nirmala Higher Secondary School in Aluva, Kerala. After that, she obtained a BA in Communicative English from Teresa’s College in Kochi.

Amala and Deiva Thirumagal director A. L. Vijay were rumoured to be dating as early as 2011 while Amala was filming Deiva Thirumagal. On June 7, 2014, she proposed to her longtime partner Vijay in Aluva, Kochi. On June 12th, 2014, the ceremony was held in Chennai’s Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Hall. In 2016, Amala and Vijay announced their intention to get divorced, citing disagreements between her and her in-laws regarding her acting career as the cause. The judge granted them a divorce in 2017.

Amala Paul Career

Lal Jose, a well-known Malayalam director, was impressed by Amala Paul’s modelling resume and decided to cast her in a supporting role in his version of the movie Neelathamara (2009). She had anticipated that the success of the movie would result in more offers, but the reverse happened. She persisted in seeking for Tamil film jobs, eventually agreeing to play the lead in the low-budget comedy Vikadakavi, which was eventually released as her sixth feature after much delay (2010). Despite being Amala’s debut Tamil release, the movie received negative reviews and was largely disregarded. Amala’s acting was criticised and she later expressed remorse about accepting the project because several of her scenes were omitted.

Then, in Samy’s contentious movie Sindhu Samaveli, Amala played Sundari, a wife who engages in adulterous relations with her husband’s father (2010). She agreed to be a part of Sindhu Samaveli before learning the entire story, saying that she was surprised but not offended by the controversial details that she later learned, and claimed that she was approached after most of her next release, Mynaa, had been completed. Despite the director’s prior criticism for depictions of illicit romances and for abusing his previous lead actress in a film, Amala downplayed the matter, stating she had no issue with him. Mixed reviews were given to the film when it originally came out, and some critics outright refused to give it a rating because they found the plot so revolting.

Amala garnered praise for the role she played. Amala claimed to have received death threats from callers who went unidentified, and she was publically admonished by women at a Chennai movie theatre, which damaged her reputation. Mynaa (2010), a love drama directed by Prabhu Solomon, marked Amala’s acting debut. Before the movie’s release, there was a lot of anticipation; after seeing it and being impressed, renowned distributors Udhayanidhi Stalin and Kalpathi S. Aghoram purchased the rights.

Amala gained widespread praise for her portrayal of the rustic beauty Mynaa. Others noted she has “immense skill” and “scores in every occasion” in the starring role. One reviewer praised her work as “outstanding” and her performance as “riveting.” She garnered compliments from co-stars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, and the movie went on to become a box office success. Amala has received numerous honors, including nominations for Best Actress at the Filmfare and Vijay Awards as well as the Vijay Award for Best Debut Actress.
