Before breaking into the Bollywood industry, he worked as a DJ, but he left after a few unpleasant experiences. His debut performance was as a young actor in the 1977 Indian film Dharam Veer.

Bobby finally achieved success after making his acting debut in the starring role in Barsaat (1995). He was given the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Male for his work in this movie. His leg injury on the set of his first big role in the movie Barsaat was a terrible setback. He had to travel to London for the therapy he required, which delayed the promotion of his movie.

He expressed his dissatisfaction with the post-production effects work on the movie’s climactic scene in interviews conducted after the release of his movie “Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya.” To his dismay, he thought the aeroplane effect had been added too late. With the movie “Dillagi,” in which he co-starred with his brother Sunny Deol, he made his directing debut. Sunny got the idea for the film’s direction after witnessing Bobby’s drunken return home one night. For the first time ever, Bob went to the movies with his sibling. He was also a candidate for the lead roles in Imtiaz Ali’s “Jab We Met” (2007) and “Highway” (2014), but he finally declined. He played an antagonist for the first time in the Bollywood film Shaka Laka Boom Boom.
