At the age of 21, Hansal married Sunita for the first time in 1989. Nevertheless, the couple’s 11-year marriage ended in divorce. Sunita passed away from cancer on July 25, 2015. He and his first wife are the parents of two sons, Jai and Pallava. In 1993, Hansal made his feature film debut with the popular cooking programme Khana Khazana on Zee TV. The show’s producers had given Hansal the assignment of locating a stunning female host. The programme was a resounding success, shooting to the top of the ratings and turning chef Sanjeev Kapoor into a well-known figure.
He also directed additional television programmes such as Highway (1995), Yaadein (1995), Lakshya (1998), and Neeti (2000). Based on a Highway occurrence, the Bollywood film Dus Kahaaniyan (2007). The 1984 Bollywood film Saaransh served as the inspiration for Hansal’s 1997 film Jayate, which was never released in theatres.
