He dropped out of Andhra Education Society English High School after seventh grade due to his family’s financial difficulties. At the young age of twelve, he started his career. Johnny began performing impersonations of Bollywood stars while dancing to their songs and selling pens on the streets of Mumbai. In Hyderabad’s Yakutpura City, where he spent a sizable portion of his formative years, he also honed his distinct comedic acting technique.

Johnny Lever was born on Wednesday, August 14, 1957, as “John Prakash Rao Janumala” in the Andhra Pradesh town of Kanigiri. Johnny is from a Christian Telugu household. His father Prakash Rao Janumala was an operator at a Hindustan Lever Ltd. (now Hindustan Unilever) unit. His mother’s name is Karunamma Janumala. Jimmy Moses, one of his two older brothers and three younger sisters, is an actor, singer, stand-up comedian, and mime artist. Johnny wed Sujatha Lever in 1984. Jamie Lever, the couple’s daughter, and Jessey Lever, an actor and musician, are their children (stand-up comedian and actress).

Johnny Lever worked as an employee at Hindustan Lever Ltd. (now Hindustan Unilever). Around that time, he started performing stand-up comedy at concerts and other events. After achieving fame, he joined the Kalyanji-Anandji troupe. Given that he was earning a comfortable income from his theatre performances, he left Hindustan Lever in 1981. He took part in a number of concerts and worldwide tours with them, the largest of which was in 1982 when he appeared alongside Amitabh Bachchan. He participated in the “Hope 86” charity show in 1986 while acting as filler in front of the Indian film industry. In the film Jalwa, opposite Naseeruddin Shah, producer Gul Anand offered him a role after noticing his talent.

He made his acting debut in Yeh Rishta Na Toote (1981), which served as the catalyst. Johnny was playing on stage when Sunil Dutt came across him and offered him a part in the 1982 movie “Dard Ka Rishta.” In the 1993 film “Baazigar,” where he played “Babulal,” he received his biggest break. Some of his most enduring roles include Chotta Chattri, Aslam Bhai, Hiralal, Colonel Almeida, Camp Manager, and Pappy Bhai. With “Love Mein Ghum,” he made his Pakistani film debut in 2011. He made his acting debut in the Tamil film “Anbirkku Alavillai” from 2011. With the film “Rang,” he made his Tulu debut in 2014.

He made his film debuts in Gujarati and Kannada with the films “Pappa Tamne Nahi Samjaay” (2017) and “Gara” (2018), respectively. The comedy “Zabaan Sambhalke,” in which Johnny debuted on television. On the show, he played “Johnny Utolandand” in episode 29. DD Metro broadcast the programme from 1993 to 1998. In 2006, he hosted the Johnny Aala Re television programme on Zee.
